Halloween!

Our Halloween was spent at our friends' the Klaassen's house for supper and then taking the kids down their street to go Trick-or-Treating. Here are some pictures from Jacob's first Halloween!

Thank goodness the cow costume fit over the cast!



Jonah, Brody, Darby, Tessa, Emma, Jacob, Clara, Lauryn, Kaylee (the VanVoorst kids missed the group picture, so imagine this whole crew plus 2 more kids & all their parents showing up at your house all at once!)

We carved pumpkins with the college-age group from church so I wanted to show off their creativity.



We also had a costume party with the college group. We bobbed for apples on strings rather than in water which I believe we proved is way funnier!

Bobbing Boys - top time about 70 seconds if I remember correctly.

A humble victory......?
There were some great costumes that I think are worthy to post:

Kayla & Jennifer - the Weasly twins from Harry Potter
Vince is a Star Wars fanatic and his costume was spot-on with the exception of the boots (basically rubber rain boots), which he took quite a verbal beating for. But he impressively made the entire costume himself, sewing and all!

Cowgirl Carrie - she even borrowed some leather chaps!
Because of our little cow, Jeff and I decided to be farmers. I ran out of time to make some seed corn patches for our vests. Oh well. Doesn't Jeff look like he's ready to go out and milk some cows? Maybe then next time we go to South Dakota!

It'll be my first big hit and will sound strangely similar to Taylor Swift's "Teardrops on my guitar" because I'm not creative enough to be a songwriter..... 6 month check-up

Jacob's 6 month well baby check-up was yesterday, so here's the stats! Weight: 18 lbs. 11 oz - 72nd% Height: 27.5 in. - 85th% He's finally slowing down the weight gain. Jacob was consistently gaining 2-3 lbs. every month, but this last month he's stayed about the same. She even weighed him twice on 2 different scales to make sure since I said he was 19.2 when I weighed him at home at the beginning of the month. I weighed him when we got home from the appointment (me holding him minus me not holding him) and our scale scale said he's 19.6 with his clothes and diaper on. So that gives me hope that MY weight is actually slightly less too! Ha, Ha! As long as my bridesmaid dress has to be altered we might as well size it down a little more, right Paula? :) I guess I'm the cautious first time parent, because when I take Jacob to his check-ups the nurses ask questions like they assume I've already given him solid foods and such.
